Random Thoughts right before Monday

Tim Collins and Malou Meyenhofer

So I’ve been MIA today because I went for a swim, a foot massage, a tango class and dinner, most of which went pretty celebrity free, oh except I ran into Juhi Pande at the pool (she has a great new line “What the f** is juice?” remind me to explain that later) and Kittu Gidwani talking to my dishy Tango instructor Tim Collins and his super graceful dance partner Malou Meyenhofer. Oh and at Cafe Goa in Bandra, Mumbai (where we had the yummiest Goan food ever) I spotted a glowing Arshiya and Rij Eappen while T.C. and Nathalie played super hosts (literally flying around from table to table.) I loved everything about the place, the ambiance, the music, obviously the food and the fact that you can smoke in the veranda, they just need to whip their service staff into shape (or maybe just keep them far away from the Fenny) and perhaps remind them that cutlery would be nice!

Bar Tip: Order the Fenny Mojito. Its yummy and refreshing.

I have to admit, I’m also currently basking in the new-found glory of the happy reception my blog has been getting. I have to mention a few people here who have done wonders for my ego over the past few weeks by telling me that they spend snatches of their day (you know, when they want to take a break) to read my blog. How fabulous right?

So thank you (in random order and I apologize if I’ve forgotten anyone I’m still a little blown away) Diya Kurien, Divya Mohta, Michael Delfs, Sajjid and Laveena Mitha, Anusha Ramachandran, Stefan Kamboj, Amitabh Nanda, Karan Wadhera (who actually got me to write it in the first place, you’re the bomb dude!) Ami Gupta, Nowshad Rizwanullah (my main squeeze),  Sheetal Sudhir, Sujata Assomull, Devraj and Nikita Sanyal, Manjulika Agarwal (that’s my thank you Mom moment!), Shalini Agarwal, Sheetal Vyas, Ash Chandler, Shalini Bazaari, Bina Jhaveri, Neeta Thawani, Sneha Vaishnavi, Devita Saraf, Priya Kapoor, Shachii Manik, obviously you since you’re reading it now, and everyone who’s ever posted a comment (well maybe except for that angry Subfusco fiasco rant) or clicked “Like” on Facebook. You’ve totally rocked my world! 🙂

Ok, moving on.

So as a collector of random trivia (occupational hazard I’m a radio jockey that’s how we kill “air” time) I come across the occasional “factoid” which may or may not be true. I have, for the lack of a better system, decided to let Google be the authority on this for me. So as you can imagine some of the stuff I come up with gets challenged now and again. I read on someones Facebook status the other day that a pregnant goldfish is known as a “twit.” Fascinated I felt the need to tell everyone who was as yet unaware of this curious origin the truth. Today however a friend of mine came up with a valiant rebuttal. The fact that fish lay eggs and so can never actually be pregnant. Stumped I turned once again to my good friend Google and here’s what I found:

twit [twit] noun: A “pregnant goldfish”; which is impossible. Some species of fish do give birth to live young (e.g. guppies and some species of shark), but goldfish, like all cyprinids lay eggs.

Ah. So you see it all makes sense now. What remains a mystery however is why would I bore you with this absolutely pointless story? (I have a point I promise!) So in the process of gathering “twit trivia” I discovered a fascinating blog called pregnantgoldfish.wordpress.com.

This isn’t Prince, but that’s probably for the best. He’s a beauty though, and probably cooler than Prince.

i’m not really 100% sure what’s going on here, but I knew something special was happening when the flash went off and I noticed about 5 different kinds of upholstery on one man.

I interupted this incredibly beautiful pair in the middle of a lively conversation and caught them mid-giggle. They had not planned on the matching yellow, I can promise you that much.

The Pregnant Goldfish (Shut up you Twit!) is a Montreal based street style blog (which literally means they stop people on the street and take their pictures!) that also puts up photos from anywhere else on earth the three authors Dane Gerus, Alison Cohen and Marilis Cardinal travel to (and of course every party they attend uumm kinda sorta like this blog really and now I’m tempted to start taking pictures of ordinary people in extraordinary outfits!) I particularly like the fact that while they like to talk about friends they love to talk about strangers (and I challenge you to find stranger pictures of people you don’t know than the ones they’ve captured here.) I think its a great little way to experience a whole other world and a reminder that people are still just people no matter where they’re from. We all love a good bit of gossip and crazy pictures with funny captions (of people we don’t necessarily know or will ever meet.) It’s wonderful to me that these are pictures of real people in real life. Cool right? Full respect for the trigger-happy.

Like how cool is this?

Right?!

We sometimes encounter people, even perfect strangers, who begin to interest us at first sight, somehow suddenly, all at once, before a word has been spoken.” – Fydor Dostoevsky
