Tom Robbins’…so write about Love!

So I know I’ve brought up my love for Tom Robbins and his turn of phrase time and again (Adit and I had a little spar over people who can read and those who do) and I’ve even worn a cowboy hat in his honor. So perhaps you’ll understand my enthusiasm when I tell you that I recently stumbled upon a goldmine of quotes from his various brilliant novels. Check em out

My favorite one has to be:

” Albert Camus wrote that the only serious question is whether to kill yourself or not.
Tom Robbins wrote that the only serious question is whether time has a beginning and an end.
Camus clearly got up on the wrong side of bed, and Robbins must have forgotten to set the alarm.
There is only one serious question. And that is:
Who knows how to make love stay?
Answer me that and I will tell you whether or not to kill yourself.”
(Still Life with Woodpecker)

but I also very much like this:

“Love is the ultimate outlaw. It just won’t adhere to any rules. The most any of us can do is to sign on as its accomplice. Instead of vowing to honor and obey, maybe we should swear to aid and abet. That would mean that security is out of the question. The words “make” and “stay” become inappropriate. My love for you has no strings attached. I love you for free.” (Still Life with Woodpecker)

oh and this (too funny):

“Just because you’re naked doesn’t mean you’re sexy. Just because you’re cynical doesn’t mean you’re cool.”

(Yes you guessed it, I’m a sucker for love.) I promise to make up for it with loads of juicy gossip over the weekend. Scouts honor.

    well done malini!

my current Fav luv qotes (dialogue) is from before sunrise…

Jesse: I kind of see this all love as this, escape for two people who
don’t know how to be alone. People always talk about how love is this
totally unselfish, giving thing, but if you think about it, there’s
    nothing more selfish.

Celine: Isn’t everything we do in life a way to be loved a little more?

Nice! The other amazing one is Susan Sarandon’s line in ‘Shall We Dance.’

“We need a witness to our lives. There’s a billion people on the planet… I mean, what does any one life really mean? But in a marriage, you’re promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things… all of it, all of the time, every day. You’re saying ‘Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go un-witnessed because I will be your witness’.”
