So Bangalore was awesome. I also took a much-needed detox from the Internet this weekend which explains why I’ve been MIA but I’m back, with pictures!
First up the ride to the Mumbai airport from Bandra on Friday was almost a major blog score because we heard a giant CRV honking behind us and saw Salman Khan in the passenger seat. Long hair, window-down, scowling cool-ly and smoking a cigarette. Unfortunately I only managed to get a shot of his knee (but hey I tried!)
So here’s a fast track through my weekend in Bangalore; first up let me just say that Bangalore’s 25 degrees and 57% humidity knocks the pants off Mumbai’s 36 degrees and 94% humidity. (Thank God it was raining when we got back!)
After several recommendations we decided to go for the centrally located Shilton Suites (look for the pink feather!) tip # 1 is that Bangalore traffic makes Mumbai traffic feel like a breeze so unless you like long, and I mean LONG rides pick a central location. Anything near MG Road works. The Shilton is cute, the Luxury Suites cost about 4500rs ($93) a night and the staff is mostly smiling and at your service (they have a little trouble getting two of everything right at breakfast though but I suppose no biggie.)
On Friday we decided to head out and try the famed Japanese restaurant called Harima (Devtha Plaza.) Absolutely delicious food. It may have helped significantly that we had an authentic Japanese guy at the table who did all the ordering for us! (FYI Soto is my boyfriend’s classmate at Harvard Business School and in Bangalore for the summer, so if you’re up for being a happy shiny tourist guide lemme know.)
RJ Anjaan & missmalini
Then we headed down the street to Nyx (Residency Road, opposite Purple Haze, above Konark restaurant) where Radio One Desi Grooves was on. Only the hottest Bollywood night in the city that rocks Bangalore every Friday! RJ Anjaan (from94.3 Radio One Bangalore) was up on deck with DJ Jasmeet and gave me a big fat friendly Bangalore welcome which made me feel like a total superstar. (Thanks for that Anjaan!) Sadly Bangalore wraps by 11:30pm tops and unless you find yourself an after-party to attend its generally lights out, quite a switch from an average weekend in Mumbai but still refreshing to see a whole new set of clubs and (I guess since they know the clock is ticking) they sure pack in the power on the dance floor!
Amrita, Anjaan and a Koala Bear
That’s Anjaan’s gorgeous wife Amrita. Super-fun and friendly and can you believe neither of them drink but just love to dance?! Impressive. Oh, and if you’re wondering why Anjaan is hugging a Kuala Bear (yes a real one) it’s because he was recently in Australia and came this close to bagging “the best job in the world” as island caretaker, check out his application video I thought it was really neat. On the upside his current job is pretty much in the top 10 too in my opinion and I should know! Day two up next…

So as you may have noticed I’ve recently discovered the wonderful world of Twitter which I confess eluded me for way longer than necessary. So now that I’ve figured it out I can bring you the juice, fresh (and with pictures) from my night outs in Mumbai thanks to my fabulous trusted 5 mega-pixel phone camera [entirely intentional Nokia plug] who knows, maybe they’ll feel like giving me an upgrade? It’s almost my birthday you know.)
Now all YOU have to do is do (as Uncle Cracker once said) is “follow me” on Twitter! You can find me here as missmalini of course; I promise you an endless supply of gossip, celebrity spotting, gig updates (for followers IN Mumbai) and wherever possible, eye-candy for boys & girls alike. Deal?
(And for those not on twitter not to worry I’ll make sure those pictures come up on missmalini the blog “old school” style as well!) so here’s what I twittered recently…
So remember the one time my camera wasn’t working and I missed taking a picture of Imran Khan? *sob* I did manage to get this one on my camera! Something Relevant ripping it up at Daddy’s Wind Song…
Comic trio Vir Das (who was very funny on Women’s Day), Kabir Singh and Saurabh Panth dropped into the studio last week, they’re going to be kicking off a brand new (and very funny) “relationship advice” show on 94.3 Radio One Saturdays at 4pm starting next week called “Guy Bhains” (watch out ladies!) These guys crack me up 🙂
*Bhains in Hindi means bull.
Last night I was hosting this gig for Hard Rock Cafe (again) and caught up with Sidd Coutto from the band Tough on Tobacco (remember I told you about him after the Channel [v] Launch Pad after party?) Well catch him on June 3rd at Il Terazzo for another smashing Daddy’s Wind Song Wednesday!
Oh and then I had this random I ❤ Mumbai moment when I caught the first monsoon drizzle last week. *sigh* I really do ❤ Mumbai!

So the pictures from my gig at Hard Rock for Rolling Stone India are finally here!
Me and Luke Kenny
Hard Rock Cafe
Randolph (also from Shaiir & Func)
Aditya Hitkari, Divya Palat and Anu Menon of Lola Kutty fame
Junelia Aguiar and Ash Chadler
Last night was super fun! As predicted my stage fright didn’t last too long and Luke Kenny was loads of fun to co-host with. Amidst randomly giving out cases of Tiger beer to all my new best friends in the audience I was quite intrigued by the line up of Advaita (an eight- piece fusion band), Medusa (heavy/alternative metal) and Pentagram (everybody knows Pentegram.) Vishal Dadlani was in a happy place and good-humoredly rocked the incessant posing he was asked to do up in the VIP section. (I think when there aren’t enough “celebrities” to shoot the photogs get stir crazy, they even took my picture to the point that the multiple flashes gave me my first deer-in-headlights moment.) There was this one lady in a flouncy (is the only word that comes to mind) white dress who posed and preened to perfection, approved the digital pictures and then was on her way to mingle shingle. Amazing. (Pictures coming soon)
Pssst I hear there was a tiny bit of drama where Pentagram almost staged a walk out but then that got sorted out (which is probably why I’m alive to blog the tale today; trust me disappointed rock fans are generally violent rock fans!)
Part two of my evening was spent at Zenzi Mills, Mumbai where Matan Schabracq hosted another one of his supercool theme parties to celebrate the official launch of the new Zenzi in town. The theme was white and florescent and people clearly went all out to adhere to the strict dress code. Matan himself loaded up on all sorts of party favors from his travels to ensure everyone had a costume (and no excuse.) The party was officially off the paparazzi radar so I’m not going to get into any celebrity spotting (that and the fact that after 4 vodka Redbulls and 2 kamakazi’s everyone looked like this…)
Amid lots of random posing and a hilarious conversation about new age combovers I had a total blast and enjoyed the whole bizarre dress up thanks to my friend Sheetal who scoped Linking Road, Bandra for anything that glows. Heck even the paparazzi got into the spirit of the party and was walking around looking like this…
Me, Sheetal & Navraj Lehl
Rebecca & Ashwin Mushran
(I think I might rock the pink extensions again tonight just for kicks!) I also heard a snatch of Ash Chandler’s new bit on the Hrithik & Susanne Roshan drama something to the effect of …so she moves into her in-laws and he rushes home from South Africa and finally gets everyone believe the “termite” story, everything is going so well until Barbara Mori comes out and says, “who the hell are you calling a terminte?!” Love it.
And just as I was leaving I caught Juhi Pande outside and was admiring her new (even shorter) chic haircut when some dude “excuse me, excuse me’s” his way over to her to say something amazing cheesy like “Is your name innocence?” (Like I said, I couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.)

Kamal Hassan with his family
Its amazing really how fast the next generation of Bollywood has come of age (or is this just me cringing from falling into the “older” generation category.) I kind of understand now how my mom feels about the Bollywood stars of her youth. The kids came along but she couldn’t really relate to them. They seemed like sad little replicas of their parents. And now I’m on the other side watching them make Bollywood debut agter Bollywood debut and all I can think is “But he’s no Aamir Khan.” Anyway here’s yet another superstar kid who’s come of age.
Shruti Hasan (who’s interestingly chosen music over film) is Kamal Hasan’s daughter and she’s the star of this Raghav Sachar video. (Raghav incidentally is super talented, he’s learnt an instrument every year of his life and plays a really mean flute. My favourite song from his collection has to be this one… (listen for the flute!)
