Rakhi’s Reality

Rakhi Sawant

Rakhi Sawant

Hold everything. Rakhi Sawant’s Swayamvar kicks off tonight on NDTV Imagine where 16 hopefuls will try to impress the notorious Rakhi Sawant, one of them eventually winning her hand in marriage (I wonder if she’s actually going to go through with it! Bets anyone?)

I can tell already that this is going to be one of those train-wreck shows I’ll be totally addicted too, you know the kind you just can’t stop watching cos its so bad, you just have to know if it can get any worse?! Ah reality TV, what a junkie you’ve made of me.

suitors
Psst!
Rakhi was apparently really surprised to see Kanpur boy Atirek Sharma as a contestant on her swayamvar. Atirek is a close friend of Rakhi’s ex, Abhishek Awasthi, but has now severed all ties with him (or has she? maybe he’ll make a surprise wild card comeback and up the drama at some point!) Atirek, who’s been practically stalking Rakhi ever since, even put together a scrap book of pictures from her childhood as a gift for her. Obviously she was thrilled.

Mosquers: virtual red carpet.

main-page-banner2_004

Didjya hear about this? A short film released on Youtube just bagged the 2009 Mosquers Best Comedy Award. (The Mosquers were created two years ago to celebrate Muslim film-makers and give voice to contemporary Muslim life in Edmonton.)

Nelson Spooner Production presents “Samir’s 30 Days” – a Fahad Shaikh & Shawn Kanungo film.

Synopsis: Samir, a typical directionless brown guy, has lived through 27 years of bad luck with girls. However, his parents have had enough of his apathetic existence, and tell him that if he doesn’t find a girl in thirty days, they will get his marriage arranged. With the help of friends, Samir gets a crash course in girls and discovers why hes struggled his whole life.

So I have to say this isn’t the best comic timing I’ve come across (more like a mash up of, “Something About Mary” and Beauty & the Geek) but valiant effort none-the-less, and it looks like they had fun make it. (I’m also hoping this means poor Samir finally got laid!)

P.S. Thank you Marcot Patel Chung for the tip off!

Who is this and why do I care what she reads?!

Seriously, sometimes I want to smoke what the PR people are smoking. Today I got this odd little press note;

“Greetings for the day!!!
Hope all fine with you
Please find attached the picture and the answered questions about her reading habits and books she likes to read
Feel free to revert for any queries
Hope this you can publish
Thanks and Regards”

P.S. My favorite part is the yoda-esque quality of “this you can publish” as opposed to “can you publish this?”

Jyoti Photo 004

Sneha Wagh

But seriously I don’t recall asking what Sneha Wagh’s favorite books are. (I don’t actually even know who she is, do you?)

1. What is your current bedside reading book?
I am presently reading Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramhansa Yogananda Its truly an amazing book…many of life’s lessons to be learnt…

2. What is it about the book that fascinates you?
Definitely the best book I have ever read. Gives you an insight of rich Indian saint lineage and their lives. Has totally changed my thought process and anybody can feel positive vibrations as he starts reading this holy book provided he has that devotion and love for all

3. What kind of books do you normally prefer reading just before going to bed?
I like books which follows a simple language yet very much linkage to life. I also like reading fiction, comedy at times even comics…

4. A little on the type of books you like reading?
I had read many books of Sydney Sheldon… almost all the books written by her. At times I prefer sum light stories like for instance the best comedy flick is Trust Me by Rajshree it’s a comic story about love, heart-break and friendship.

5. Who are your favorite authors and why?
As I said … Sydney Sheldon,  Shobha Dey, (fictional stories by them) at times autobiographies …. The reason is I enjoy reading books … and they change my moods if suppose I m upset I read comedy books, (Rajshree – trust me) when I need certain guidance I read autobiographies …

P.S. So turns out she’s almost-famous for her portrayl of “Jyoti” on NDTV Imagine.  The story traces the journey of a young woman Jyoti, the eldest of the three daughters and the sole bread winner of the family who sacrifices her dreams and aspirations to fulfill every need and desire of her family. Ah yes lets propagate that stereotype why don’t we, so healthy.

Back to the Movies – Mumbai 24 – Mid Day (Mumbai)

epaperpdf_06062009_060609ms

And here’s what everyone else said that I couldn’t fit into the column (there’s a word limit you know!) of course now that the strike is finally over there’s going to be a resurgence of celebrity spotting at the cinema keep your eyes open (I’ll keep my Twitter-cam handy.)

Yudhistir Urs:
“I hope the kiss and make up because this lovers quarrel is causing a lot of people much heartache. Now that there is little to do I am trying to astrally project myself into a theatre in a galaxy far away to catch the latest Hollywood action!”

Riyaaz Amlani: “Watching grass growing outside the theatres! Right now I am going nuts watching DVDs of old TV series Carl Sagan’s Cosmos and Mash.”

Shehnaz Treasurywala: “Shooting for my own film round the clock but I love my DVDs which I watch on my laptop in my van, miss going to the theatre to watch films though no DVD can beat that.”

Cyrus Sahukar: “I miss movies. I am currently getting back to writing my self help book called ‘how to start worrying and start freaking out’ its going to be a bestseller my roommate in the cell loves it.”

Bandana Tewari: “I’m handling the strike by happily watching reruns of The West Wing.”

Ash Chandler: “Hasn’t really affected me, planning to catch Angles and Demons and Star Trek in Goa!”

Fahad Samar: “Watched 99 and Angels and Demons in the theatres and have had a rollicking time watching the entire Almodovar collection on the home projection screen – the man is such a twisted genius!”

Pritish Nandy: “I’m watching movies in London was here for a week, already seen 6 movies and I have still two evenings to go!”

DJ Aqeel: “I have been in America watching Terminator, Star Trek and Angels and Demons!”

Anubhav Pal: “I’m watching movies on DVD about strikes.”

Anu Dewan: “I am addicted to Apple TV so I love watching movies and the latest TV shows at home.”

Chetan Hansraj: “Bu watching DVDs I prefer watching movies at home, its more fun.”

Shamita Singha: “I don’t really watch Hindi movies so it hasn’t affected me on that front but yeah no decent English films in the multiplexes of late so I’m quite bummed about that! So watching DVDs at home of the latest Desperate Housewives or then some old classic English films. Just watched Before Sunrise and am about to order After Sunset it’s sequel!”

Rahul DaCunha: “Tons of DVDs, TV shows like CSI etc and all the new Hollywood films like Milk and The Wrestler are all available.

For the two month long Multiplex-Producer strike the movie-going glitterati had also turned their attention to other celluloid distractions till today. Here’s how they were handling it and what they were watching until the strike was called of yesterday!

Yudhistir Urs: “I hope the kiss and make up because this lovers quarrel is causing a lot of people much heartache. Now that there is little to do I am trying to astrally project myself into a theatre in a galaxy far away to catch the latest Hollywood action!”

Reshma Bombaywala: “Just watched the afternoon show of Angels & Demons at Eros yesterday. Got my nostalgic, I miss the big grand movie experience.”

Pia Trivedi: “Well actually I quite hate it. Was talking about it with my friends… ah well I’ve just been renting DVDs and catching up on movies. No other choice till the strike.”

Bruna Abdallah: “It’s horrible. I had to go to Globus to watch Angels and Demons. Getting DVDs or downloading from the Internet is the way to go.”

Arshiya Eaapen: “The only film I watched in the multiplex is 99 other than that rented tons of DVDs. Its sad because I miss the fun of eating popcorn and watching a film in the cinema hall.”

Sapna Bhavnani: “Miss making out in the theatres more than anything else heehee.. making up by going out and drinking more. Damn it!”

Bandana Tewari: “I’m handling the strike by happily watching reruns of The West Wing.”

Ash Chandler: “Hasn’t really affected me, planning to catch Angles and Demons and Star Trek in Goa!”

Farid Currim: “The movie strike hasn’t bothered me at all. With so much sports coverage on TV, cricket, the French Open and now more cricket! Plus there are some good foreign films late night on TV. So no worries!”

Ashwin Mushran: “Definitely not any of my new movies since they are not releasing because of the strike! Otherwise not too bothered quite happy watching the French Open, Family Guy and Fringe, Also watching a lot more National Geographic, Discovery Channel and feeling a lot more intelligent because of the strike!”

Fahad Samar: “Watched 99 and Angels and Demons in the theatres and have had a rollicking time watching the entire Almodovar collection on the home projection screen – the man is such a twisted genius!”

Divya Palat: “I’m handling it horribly! So delighting to be going on a Star Trek today… been downloading tons of great TV shows from the US, So finished 24, a great new show called Mentalist and my new favourite, Lie to Me. That combined with a few movie downloads we’ve been getting by but only just! Missing the popcorn!

Pritish Nandy: “I’m watching movies in London was here for a week, already seen 6 movies and I have still two evenings to go!”

DJ Aqeel: “I have been in America watching Terminator, Star Trek and Angels and Demons!”

Dino Morea: “Ahh yes, well considering we are missing all the big new releases, wolverine, Star Trek etc I am watching some of the old classics, when I’m free that is.”

Rahul DaCunha:
“Tons of DVDs, TV shows like CSI etc and all the new Hollywood films like Milk and The Wrestler are all available.

Dipannita Sharma:
“Actually It’s terrible, you know its like something important has been taken away, having to make do with DVDs.”

Shibani Kashup: “Ya the movie strike has created a vaccum in everyone’s evening life especially for movie buffs like us. But on the other hand watching a lot of movies on DVD at home with friends especially movies we have missed out on. But hey there are places like Blue Frog and Daddy’s Windsong Wednesdat’s where we spend some lovely evenings listening to great live music!”

Roshan Abbas celebrated the launch of  his TV Serial ‘Palampur Express’ on Sony Entertainment Television last night at Enigma, J.W. Marriott, Mumbai. Roshan has produced, conceptualized AND ideated the storyline. (He’s actually a really talented guy, we used to work together at a radio station in Mumbai and he’s one big cuddly bear.)

Palampur Express, Roshan Abbas’s first attempt  in fiction, is  an inspirational story of a young girl Pavni Dikshit (played by Pooja Kanwal) whose only dream is to be the fastest runner ever and achieve an Olympic gold medal for the country!

Roshan and Shaheen Abbas played host to the entire caste and crew of Palampur Express as they watched the live telecast on huge screens at Enigma. Pooja Kanwal in a light brown bandage dress walked in with fiancé and mom Anita Kanwal. The cast includes Aksshat Gupta, Ajay Singh Chaudhary, Adaa Khan , Rajesh B Asthana, Amita Udgata and Nitin. Also spotted Ronit Roy, Suresh Menon, Gurdip Bhangoo of Sony, model Khalid Siddhiqui, Shweta Keswani with boyfriend Alex, director Salim Arif with wife Lubna, Nigaar Khan, Achint Kaur with Mohan Kapoor, Sumit Raghavan, Naman Shaw and Raghav Sachar (he’s got a new video coming up too!)
