Reshma Bombaywala
returned to the Mumbai party circuit with an intimate birthday party last night at Aurus, Mumbai looking absolutely stunning and accompanied by her hunky beau Dimi Lezinska (who used his bartending skills to rustle up some fabulous  shots.) Funnily enough a few days ago at a Swarovski soiree the shutterbugs got all excited to see her and assumed she and Ash Chandler are an item simply because they arrived together. I can tell you for a fact that’s totally not true. In fact Ash is quite head over feet about the charming stylist and designer Junelia Aguiar (who by far is on of the sweetest girls I have I ever met.) Remember you heard it here first!

Also spotted, Ashish Raheja (who I will forever remember as “Sheesh”), Brian Brown (who just made it to my “lame lush list” with his dorky pick up attempt – which I think he thought was super funny – “Look, I’m married” with a wink. Ugh.) Espresso king Alon Mooleman (who’s promised to send me pictures of his futuristic espresso machine which has a fancy name and even comes in pink!),  Farhan Akhtar (Oh. My. God. I did a total double take when I realized this very chilled out chap hanging in the corner was the Rock On! eye candy himself), Kishore D.F. (remember Seijo and the Soul Dish in Bandra, Mumbai? I miss that place), Yudhisthir Urs (who had apparently just arrived from a very successful cooking-while-drinking session and seemed adorably plastered), Fahad Samar (who I had a delightful conversation with about books. I don’t mean to sound like a literary snob or anything but lets face, it on the whole glitterati circuit there is a fine line between people who can read and those who do read!), Nikasha Tawadey and T.C. and Nathalie Ressencourt De Sousa (who’s Cafe Goa you should check out the next time you’re in Bandra, Mumbai.)

Celebrity Lost and Found (Part III)
Kamal Sadhana
(Remember him?) who made his major debut opposite Kajol in Bekhudi (which I quite enjoyed back in the day) and then slowly faded into oblivion through a series of random movies titled Rang, Baali Umar Ko Salaam, Hum Sab Chor Hain, Rock Dancer, Angaara, Hum Hain Premi, Nirnayak, Mohabbat Aur Jung, Kaali Topi Lal Rumaal, Kasamh Se (a TV series) and Victoria No. 203: Diamons Are Forever also why do I feel like he was in Maachis? (Don’t him and Chandrachur Singh have the exact same slightly “lost boy” vibe?)

Farhan Akhtar flagged off Rock On! at SPJ Sadhana School’s “Lay A Brick, Build A Dream” project over high-tea hosted by Taj Land’s End on Saturday afternoon. Apparently the kids put on an entertaining and energetic dance performance inspired by the film “Rock On.” Farhan Akhtar even laid a brick in the wall. Volunteers may purchase one or more bricks for 5000rs ($100) per brick to support the cause. Reknown architect, Hafeez Contractor will be designing the project gratis.

I Heart Farhan Akhtar!

Farhan Akhtar

Farhan Akhtar

I’m starting to like Farhan Akhtar more and more these days. When he’s not rocking the microphone (oh give the guy a break he can too sing besides he’s cute and doesn’t have to sound like Springsteen to be a rockstar, this is Bollywood after all) he’s reciting poignant poetry in support of battered women or playing Word Twist on Facebook. Just a regular “Dil Chahta Hai” type of guy, you know?

So I love the fact that he’s also supporting SPJ Sadhana School’s “Brick by Brick” Campaign which entreats Mumbaikars to voluntarily make donations so they can add additional floors to accommodate and teach more mentally challenged special children. Remember I told you about their fascinating fashion extravaganza last month?

Farhan will be inaugurating a special dance performance by NGO children on “Rock On!” while Hafeez Contractor will be designing the project and TCS & FCB Ulka will be providing additional assistance as well.

Full props to Manali Vengasarkar, Sister Gaitonde, Geeta Gopalakrishnan and Radhike Khanna – a truly magnificient woman with clearly a heart of solid gold (and she smiles a lot too. :))

Event Details: Venue – Garden View, 2nd Level, Taj Lands End, Bandra Date on Saturday, 18th April 2009 at4.00 pm

Last night I watched The Vagina Monologues for the very first time. I must confess all I knew so far is what little I gathered from Chandler Bing’s reaction on an episode of friends. (i.e. I assumed all men hate it and that it’s all about angry women who hate men.) Obviously I was totally off. It turned out to be a delightfully hilarious (and somewhat initimate) exploration of what defines and motivates women. If you haven’t seen it yet you really should.

Coming back to last night though, for the first half of the show my date and I couldn’t quite tell if they were having a laugh and purposely putting on what appeared to be an amateurish school production. I mean I loved the piece by Sandip Soparkar, Jesse Randhawa and Smiley Suri enacting the life and tragic circumstances which led to Haseena Hussain’s acid attack by a rejected male colleague (the fact that she was there gave me goose bumps.) But then there was Vishal Hasrani, a sweet little man who belted out songs like “One Moment in Time” and “Hero” with the deepest conviction but the most comical results. (You know, I haven’t seen a whole lot of Zoya Akhtar in the spotlight but she strikes me as someone with a healthy sense of humor and appreciation for irony considering she also giggled through Vishal Hasrani’s tearful rendition of Mariah Carey’s “Hero.”)

The actors Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal, Dolly Thakore, Sonali Sachdev, Avantika Akerkar, and Jayati Bhatia were all brilliant (I particularly enjoyed “My Short Skirt” by Avantika Akerkar and a wonderful adaptation of “He liked to look at it” by Sonali Sachdev and full props to Jayati Bhatia for hitting all the high notes with reckless abandon.) and Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar ‘s rendition of the poem “In India girls are meant for burning and boys are all that matter” by Mahabanoo was both moving and heartbreaking. Even Imran Khan did his solemn best to convey the ache and terror women witness around the world to this day. Loveleen Tandon, co-director of Slumdog Millionaire played humble chief guest.  Their collective mission; V-DAY INDIA 2009: Women and Men ending violence ‘all together’.

Imran Khan and Farhan Akhtar celebrate V-Day in March.

Last Saturday, March 14th saw some celebrity action town-side at Indigo, Mumbai. The launch of V-Day 2009: Women and Men ending violence together by Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal, Kaizad Kotwal, Dolly Thakore, Sonali Sachdev and Avantika Akerkar (Imran Khan’s girlfriend’s namesake only before you get any ideas!)

His girlfriend Avantika Malik looks like this:

Anyway the reason I clarified is lest you make some snap judgement about my favorite new Khan who is lending his  voices (and mug) to the nobel cause as well, alongside Farhan Akhtar and Sandip Soparkar who will choreograph a spectacular dance sequence which he will perform along with Jesse Randhawa and Smiley Suri.

FYI: V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. The V in V-Day stands for Victory, Violence and Vagina (No kidding.) As part of V-Day India 2009, a special 200th stage show of The Vagina Monologues will be performed on Wednesday, March 25th with the original Vagina Warrior actors who have been a part of the cast since the start of this initiative.

Dolly Thakore rightly praised the changing mindset and attitude of the Indian audience with an increased participation by males and the elderly who no longer shy away (nor giggle) when such topics arise.

Ticket alert:  Call 022 39895050, visit TATA Theatre (NCPA) booking office or log to www.bookmyspace.com/plays (all proceeds go to organizations and individuals fighting for the cause to end violence towards women. )

Actress Amrita Arora wed longtime boyfriend Shakeel Ladak in a lavish Catholic wedding at the Olive, Mumbai earlier this week. They even had a sangeet choreographed by Bollywood choreographer Farah Khan and hosted by Alvira Agnihotri (Salman Khan’s sister).

Amrita was dressed in an off-white vintage wedding gown designed by fashion designer Ashley Rebello, the actress will have her formal Nikaah today and then the couple will then proceed on their honeymoon.

The wedding was attended by Katrina Kaif, Priyanka Chopra, Ness Wadia, Urmila Matondkar, Ritesh Deshmukh, Farhan Akhtar, Gul Panag, Karishma Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Kim Sharma, Amrita Arora, Shakeel Ladak, Raveena Tandon, Malaika Arora Khan, Salman Khan, Aftab Shivdasani, Aditi Govitrikar, Tusshar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Suzanne Roshan Khan, Dino Morea, Neelam Kothari, Alvira Khan, Karan Johar, Sajid Khan and Arbaaz Khan. (Shah Rukh Khan, for obvious reasons, didn’t show up  Salman Khan was there) but Gauri Khan more than made up for his absence. Amrita’s Kambakht Ishq co-star Akshay Kumar and his wife Twinkle were also missing in action.

Amrita’s bridesmaid  and best friend Kareena Kapoor was the first to come and the last to leave. A little birdie tells me Saif was seen holding Kareena very close as if to say ‘Marry me right here, right now, Bebo’. Apparently Wardha and Karishma Kapoor almost didn’t make it to the wedding as the zippers of both their gowns came undone just as they were about to leave home. Fortunately, fresh zips and damage control allowed them to make it, unfortunately they missed they actual wedding.

Deepika’s new Leading Man

Farhan Akhtar & Deepika Padukone

Farhan Akhtar & Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone will star with Farhan Akhtar in Excel Entertainment’s next, “Kartik Calling Kartik.” Directed by debutant Vijay Lalwani, the film will be shot on a start-to-finish schedule from April to June at various locations across India.

Interestingly, last week Deepika had featured with Farhan on his TV show “Oye! It’s Friday.” A source revealed, “She has been very fond of Farhan and his movies; especially, Dil Chahta Hai and also loved him as a debutant actor in Rock On! Deepika’s apparently been dying to work with Farhan. So when this offer came along, it was a dream come true.” Sounds like she has a harmless little crush going there, how cute. (But seriously who’s naming these flicks?!)
