Rakhi’s Reality

Rakhi Sawant

Rakhi Sawant

Hold everything. Rakhi Sawant’s Swayamvar kicks off tonight on NDTV Imagine where 16 hopefuls will try to impress the notorious Rakhi Sawant, one of them eventually winning her hand in marriage (I wonder if she’s actually going to go through with it! Bets anyone?)

I can tell already that this is going to be one of those train-wreck shows I’ll be totally addicted too, you know the kind you just can’t stop watching cos its so bad, you just have to know if it can get any worse?! Ah reality TV, what a junkie you’ve made of me.

suitors
Psst!
Rakhi was apparently really surprised to see Kanpur boy Atirek Sharma as a contestant on her swayamvar. Atirek is a close friend of Rakhi’s ex, Abhishek Awasthi, but has now severed all ties with him (or has she? maybe he’ll make a surprise wild card comeback and up the drama at some point!) Atirek, who’s been practically stalking Rakhi ever since, even put together a scrap book of pictures from her childhood as a gift for her. Obviously she was thrilled.

Jewelry Designer Honey Lulla hosted Champagne High-Tea, for friends and mum’s at Dusk, Hotel Pali Hill, Mumbai on Sunday and took the opportunity to showcase her latest collection as well.

“A Child Gives Birth to a Mother” was the theme for the evening. (Yup not cheesy at all!) Honey had designed a special piece from her latest collection for every mother from their child. Spotted: Suchitra Pillai with mother Nicky Pillai, Sangeet & Siddharth Haldipur with mother Padma Haldipur, Tushar Jalota with mother Neelam Jalota, and TV Actress Urvashi Dholakia.

FYI Honey specializes in chandelier and “shoulder duster” earrings, but also enjoys creating buttons, brooches, necklaces, shoe straps, bracelets, and anklets. She primarily uses Australian crystals and Chinese and Malaysian pearls with her intricate filigree made of a combination of diverse metals. Her PR mentioned that “Honey Lulla’s designs are limited only by her imagination.”

Honey Lulla’s clientele includes Rakshanda Khan, Mona Singh, Celina Jaitely, Rakhi Sawant, Shilpa Shetty, Farah Khan, Mandira Bedi, Mini Mathur and Shweta Salve and her products have been seen on television shows such as Nach Baliya, Jhalak Dhilaja, Deal No Deal and Indian Idol, and on the big screen in, Jahnasheen, Khel, Jawani Deewani, and Kalyug.  Honey Lulla is also a senior hair artist at the leading hair salon in Bandra, Make Over.

Who Wants to Marry a Drama Queen?

Rakhi Sawant

Rakhi Sawant

And just when we all thought we were safe Rakhi Sawant strikes again. (I suppose there’s some comfort in knowing that some people never change, also that a publicity stunt by any other name, is still a publicity stunt.)

I got a call sometime last week alerting me to this “major event” where a “very well known celebrity” was going to unveil a ground breaking hunt for love on TV (while I thought wait a minute I think I’ve seen this movie...)

As it turns out the “celebrity” is none other than the notorious Rakhi Sawant, and the event is (someone gag me with a spoon) her “earnest” attempt to find love on the wire. I kid you not, this is going to be a nationwide search to help Rakhi find her soul mate (Splitsvilla style.) All courtesy NDTV Imagine aptly titled “Rakhi Ka Swayamvar.” 15 prospective grooms will be vying for Rakhi’s (evidently volatile affections.) Over the duration of the show, the prospective bridegrooms will be brought together under one roof and be put through a series of tasks that will test their personality, character, physical fitness, talent, their compatibility with Rakhi (and clearly their sanity.) All through the series, viewers will help Rakhi decide, by voting for or against the prospective bridegrooms. Reality television just got a little too (su)rreal.

You know what’s really tragic though? I’ll probably watch. (Reality TV junkies of the world are you with me?) It started with “Big Boss” and continues with (the infinitely better “Roadies” & “Splitsvilla”) and I confess even the likes of “Sarkar” and the lamentable “Sitaron Ko Choona Hain” on Real TV (damn you Raghu) I’m addicted. I need my fix.

Really Rakhi?

Rakhi Sawant

Rakhi Sawant

Meanwhile the inncorrigible item girl Rakhi Sawant (in all her wisdom) has announced, “Had they air-dropped me from a helicopter in their rescue operation, I would have danced in skimpy clothes and seduced all the terrorist inside and would have killed them one-by-one. I know, eventually they will also kill me, but I do not mind dying for my country.”

Clearly Rakhi you’ve been dropped before.
