Apart from film, fashion was on the menu at IIFA this weekend. Designer Manav Gangwani and jewelery designer Farah Khan Aqeel showed their latest collections at the IIFA fashion show held in Macau on Friday night.
Manav Gangwani’s collection “Serenity” was themed in white, green and gold. The show stoppers for Manav Gangwani were Madhavan, Dia Mirza and Dino Morea. (Dia Mirza in a heavily embroidered, lehenga sparkling with Swarovski crystals, teamed with a matching corset with jewelery by Farah Khan. Dino in an ivory sherwani appliqued with ivory velvet and further accented with Swarovski crystals and beads. Madhavan wore gold lame sherwani, artistically embroidered, once again accented with Swarovski crystals and bead work.
Sussane wore an emerald necklace with Columbian pear shape emeralds and diamonds. For Hrithik, Farah designed a pendant suspended on a black chord in the form of a soaring falcon, “I envision seeing him like that so that’s why I designed this specially keeping him in mind.”
Much of the glitterati including Zayed Khan, Sophie Choudry (much prefer her pink dress, too much cleavage for comfort in the white one n’est pas HHC?), Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Dia Mirza (skinny legs and all), Malaika Khan, Sussane Roshan, Mugdha Godse, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Anil Thadani, Madhur Bhandarkar made bold and bling statements in couture creations by Manav Gangwani and jewelry by Farah Khan at the IIFA Awards this weekend. (The designers in turn got the best possible piggy back ride down the red carpet!) Even Peter Andre adorned the desi dude look (I wonder where THAT random 6 degrees connect happened but go Slumdog nevertheless!) he showed up in a sherwani, funky embroidered canvas kicks and a bejeweled Peacock brooch all.
Even Farah Khan walked the red carpet in a dress by Manav Gangwani. While Priyanka Chopra, Bipasha Basu and Kangana Ranaut wore her precious jewelery.
FYI if you’re wondering what the filmy factor is. Farah Khan Ali (married to Aqeel Ali aka DJ Aqeel) is big sis to Sussanne Roshan (wife of Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan) and Zayed Khan (married to Malaika Khan) so bling runs in the family!
Farah says, ” My designs are flamboyant, ornate and adventurous. I believe jewelery should make you feel like a princess when you wear it, no matter how big or small the piece of jewelery is, it should be eye catching and make the wearer feel special.”
(I guess it makes total sense now why Farah Khan’s doting hubby, DJ Aqeel Ali’s rocking night club at the Leela Kempinski, Mumbai is called Bling right?!)
